Default 1919 A4 with original receipts!

This is the kind of stuff we love. Someone bought this A4 on a payment plan between 1919 and 1920, and saved four bills of sale for the payments:

I'm not in the market, but this ad makes me wonder if he would sell the instrument minus the paper. IMHO, the seller is jacking up the price, because of the paper.

Certain buyers would gladly pay a premium to know such a history on their instrument. I think the seller has done some good research from the original purchase of the mandolin to the death of the original owner. Cool stuff, IMHO. Contrast that with mandolins bought and sold multiple times over the years, no telling how many owners had their hands on 'em or who the owners were.

Search for A4s on Reverb and you'll find a number of them in that price range. Blue book value on a paddlehead A4 appears to be $2,500–3,000 these days — seemingly irrespective of condition or ship date.

There at least you can make an offer.
