Default Mandolin history: tuition in London in 1886-8

    Hi

I'm researching the life of a local (fairly well-to-do) family. One of the daughters of the family went off to London, age 16, for musical training in 1886-8. She studied singing with one Edoardo Barri, a composer and performer. And she studied mandolin with a Miss Luigi. Now, that's a common Italian name, and several male mandolin teachers and performers have that lastname. Anyone know of any women of that name who were teaching mandolin in the 1880s in London?

    Many thanks

    Tony

Maybe someone in the London Mandolin Ensemble would know?

Have you looked at the London Trade Directories for that period? It's likely that someone professionally engaged in teaching mandolin (or simply "music") would appear in them.
