Default Marla Fibish Irish Mandolin Winter Intensive Workshop - Feb '18!

Super excited for this: Marla Fibish is teaching an Irish Mandolin Intensive Workshop in the new year - Feb 23-25th 2018 here in the Bay Area for intermediate and above level players! Signed up for it as soon as I heard about it - sounds awesome: sessions, group classes, a 30 min private lesson for each attendee, lunch, tea, coffee and snacks. Something to look forward to after the holidays!

Just a heads up - just heard that there's been a late cancellation for Marla's Winter intensive course, so there's a spot available if anyone is interested! You can most likely inquire about it via her website: www.marlafibish.com

Sounds like an absolutely brilliant workshop, but not the right geographical area for me. I hope you'll enjoy it!

The Winter Intensive Workshop was fantastic! I can't recommend it highly enough. My head was swimming with all we learnt over the two days - Marla sent us 17 tunes to learn/familiarize ourselves with prior to the workshop (reels, jigs, slip jigs, hop jigs, slides, hornpipes, polkas, barn dances and a waltz!) and we then were able to focus on technique, variations and ornamentation for each tune during the workshop. Every attendee also received a 30 min private lesson with Marla. There were plentiful breaks in the day for tea, coffee, snacks, and lovely lunches provided. We had a session at the end of the day on Saturday (and also one the evening before, as a mixer to meet one another prior to the workshop commencing the next day). The other attendees were a mix of relatively local folks (Greater Bay Area) and folks from out of town, all lovely - so nice to chat about mandolin stuff and tunes with like minded folk!

It did prove to be an "expensive" experience for me though, as I got the chance to finally play a Girouard mandolin, and then promptly went home and obsessed about getting one. The deposit was sent off a few days ago - expected date of delivery late Fall/early Winter!

The Winter Intensive was a wonderful experience, Marla is such a great teacher - can't wait to do it again next year!

Jill, we are now waiting for your postings of some of the new stuff you have learned. You were really good before this course, so can't wait to hear you now!

We just had both Marla and Max and Lauri Girouard here at our little March Mandolin Festival in Concord NH, and rave reviews for both. Marla is a wonderful player and teacher, and a great advocate for the mando in Irish music. And I have been totally thrilled with my own Girouard A-5 since I got it in 2014. Their oval holes are fabulous, too.Glad you are getting a lovely new mandolin!
