Default Music shops in DFW Metro??

Hi all - I'm from Colorado and have a free day tomorrow in Dallas area. Would love to check out some music shops to see mandos, guitars, etc. I'm up near Wiley/Murphy but am willing (or at least resigned) to drive a lot to see a couple of stores. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Chuck

Too bad you aren't in Austin or you could visit Fidders Green Music Shop and even arrange a tour of the Ellis and Collins shops. As with most places, guitars are dominant and you see very few mandolins of any quality.

Charley’s Guitar Shop usually has some stuff from Collings.

If only Arnold and Morgan Music in Garland, Texas were still around! I made many special trips to them during the late'60s, 70s, and 80s, spent many an hour "auditioning" my wish list, and spent many dollars there. Unfortunately they closed sometime in the '90s I believe. However, I think the "Morgan" of A&M still has a shop in Garland. I don't know anything about that shop, but it might be worth a call.

That was a great shop. They lasted into the early 2000s though. I was giving a lady guitar lessons around 2003-2004 and she bought a nice Taylor there.

Thanks for the correction. I kinda lost touch with them in the late '80s -- for whoever knows what reason. I just remember talking with a friend about A&M a few years ago and he said that they had closed.

And, yes, I agree. That was indeed a great shop.

Dang it! Sorry about that. A friend told me about Fullers last week, but didn't remember the location. Should have looked it up!

I don't know of much to look at in Dallas, unless you're a fan of the big boxes. Fullers = Houston, Sanctuary = McKinney

Would be great to know of any "hidden" gems there. I left DFW almost five years ago, but I'm back there every month or so for business, and family.

Austin being the "music capitol" down here, the trifecta mentioned above would be about the best trip to make when you have the time, Fiddler's Green, Ellis, Collings = "mandolin heaven" around these parts.

Thanks all. Had a great time. Took my 90 year old dad with me, so we moved s l o w.
Got to Archies in Richardson (I think). A newer shop with some nice mid-range guitars. He had a Savanah mando in stock and often had some Eastman's. He recommended Tone Shop in Addison. Awesome collection of acoustics including many Taylors and Martins. Lots of high end. Had a The Loar LM-520-VS. Had a used Weber (forgot the model) but at $5k, it was too rich for my pocketbook. We went to lunch and i FORGOT to catch Charley's. I'll have to check it out next time. Jason, at Archies also recommended The Guitar Sanctuary in McKinney. Wow. Not nearly as big a selection as The Tone Shop, but almost museum like. Had 3 mando's. I beautiful Collings up so high I didn't dare even look at the tag, a Gibson F style and an Eastman 815.
Will head home in the morning and may stop in Denton at Sky Guitars and anything interesting I can find in Amarillo.
I'll save this thread for my next visit. Thanks all!

I've not been out to the Guitar Sanctuary but have heard good things about it. I sold an amp via Craig's List to a fellow who teaches guitar there.

Forgot to mention earlier, if you're ever in the HEB (Hurst-Euless-Bedford) area, check out the fairly new Texas Guitar Ranch on Harwood Road. These folks are trying hard with this shop. They have a pretty nice acoustic room too. The best mandolin they had on the wall when I was in there was a The Loar, but that's a start.
