Default Steve Perry at Gianna Violins

Just wanted to give a big shout out to steve. Took my mandolin to him for some work. He treated my 500 dollar mandolin like a 5000 dollar mandolin. He was down to earth and a cool guy to deal with. Didn't try and sell me stuff I didn't need. Highly recommend.

+1 A number of years ago, when I was first starting out in this mandolin trail, I was having some problems getting tone out of an instrument and went to Steve's shop. As Kevin said, he really gave me and my mandolin great treatment. I was more than a bit skeptical about mando-voodoo in spite of all the technical explanations he gave me. I will say that the tone of the instrument I took there greatly improved. It was never going to be a great instrument, but Steve made it the best it could be. If you have an instrument that is under-performing and don't have the resources for a new instrument, I recommend letting Steve do his magic. His prices are fair the trip to his shop outside of Maryville is memorable. I had to go to barber shop to get directions. Felt right out of Mayberry.

I own 2 mandolins that Steve sold and setup at his shop. The Eastman MD505 that I have is the best sounding 505 I have played. The Mando-voodoo is a real and it works. I also sent a Breedlove that I was not pleased with for mando-voodoo and he returned it to me sounding and playing fantastic! Easy to work with and 100% recommended!

Does anyone know if Steve Perry is still in business? I'm having trouble contacting him at Gianna Violins email address.

Steve is a frequent poster here and is always very helpful with lots of good advice. He has posted a detailed description of his Mando Voodoo process, which I found very interesting.

Whatever happened to Steve Perry and Gianna Violins? I tried to buy his Appalachian model violin last year and talked to him for about 6 months about it. It was always "on the bench being worked on" because something else had come up. I know Steve is busy but I left it at "let me know when it is finished" and I never heard back from him. I finally bought a fiddle from Royce Burt. The fiddle is fantastic but I'll always wonder what the Applachian would have sounded like.

If you email him he should reply within a few days. I just recently had an exchange with him. He was helpful as usual.

Appalachian is still almost done. Back kept going out and going out and going out. Lots of other things. Tree fell across shop & crushed roof in. Death and confusion in family. Law practice blew up bigger than intended. Currently sort of liquidating after the move into this place in preparation for possibly changing to Chicago location.

Just the usual life stuff plus delayed injury recovery. Finally got things in place so I can stand and walk longer and longer. Starting to get back up into things. Thought I was going to have to look into partial disability for a while.

If Rebecca gets the Chicago job I can back off from the terror of supporting a large house and her, my son will be in college and less of a constraint (maybe), and I'll have a much calmer world.

    +1!!!
I just got back my Loar 500 from Steve and it really is like a brand new instrument. I've been playing it for about 5 years and never really thought it was that great but it was all I could afford. Now it plays and sounds like the premium quality mando I've always wanted. I'm extremely pleased and highly recommend.
