I checked my binding inventory and found out I'm almost out of IBW top-binding and have barely enough of side binding for few next mandolins so I'm looking for sources of binding materials...
I've asked this year or so back but thinks may have changed in the meantime...
I know the good US sources, BUT they either don't ship celluloid out of US ot they add HAZMAT fee (much higher than for domestic shipments)
There are few guitar supply houses in EU but they generally cary just guitar sized bindings and haven't seen ivoroid, just plain white. No one offers IBW or IBI laminates (I would laminate myself, but the thin B/Wstrips are hard to find). I've searched cheneses sources (probably the last celluloid producers in the world are there) without much luck as well.
Anyone can point me to a reliable source of more or less standard mandolin sized bindings in I B W colors?
Also, I noticed there is a flood of boutique "tortoise" style picks on the matket all made from galalith (same as red bear, the new Fenders, Hawk etc...) so I guess there is manufacturer who supplies the material - it's not hard to manufacture, but it involves some chemicals (formaldehyde) that suggest some kind of industrial production. I heard that there is manufacturer in New Zealand who produces high end knititng sticks out of the material but couldn't find anything related to sheet or rectangular blank material (perhaps pen makers' supplies?).
I would like to test some fake ivory style material for point protectors and perhaps make few own picks...
