    Default Beginner classical solo piece

I'm looking for a nice beginner piece to play.
I've done well with improve in D minor and A minor along with a guitar player. I like all genres but seem to have an ear for classical and barouqe style mandolin. Would like something short to start that's not really to technically difficult.

    You do read standard notation?

In the Learn/Listen tab at the top, TablEdit library, classical section, there's a short version of "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring" which would be accessible and familiar. There are also several versions of a Bach bourée. Start on those while you look at the two books below. Both from Mel Bay, either one would give you lots to work on:

John Goodin has some nice arrangements of Bach and Teleman.

Find yourself some Suzuki violin books. They have some lovely classical melodies and you can probably find the right level if you go to a music store and actually look at them.

The minuet in G from Anna Magdalena Bach's notebook is a good one to play - easy enough playing single notes, and then if you want to expand it with harmony notes and ornaments you can.

If you haven't already, it's worth subscribing to http://imslp.org they provide classical sheet music for free. I use it for my mandolin orchestra and it's great. You can search for anything...as you have said "baroque" "mandolin" and see what comes back...print out a couple pdfs and do some sight-reading. Have fun!

I once had a student ask me the same question and I jotted "John Cage's 4' 33" and suggested they look it up. I'll save you the trouble: https://www.moma.org/calendar/exhibi...1386?locale=en It's not exactly classical but it sure is easy!

The notes may be easy; it's getting the interpretation right that's so difficult!

You probably think of this minuet in g-major which was composed by Christian Petzold:

It has a nice companion in g-minor:

My search for "bach minuet in g minor mandolin" ony brought forward exanples of the minuet in g-major, so you could be the first one to publish a mandolin video of it.

Thanks Crisscross: shamefully, while I could remember that it wasn't a Bach piece (even though usually attributed to him), I couldn't remember Petzold's name

I must have a look at the minor one too...
