    Default Schertler availability

I have been using one of the older Dyn M models for a bunch of years. 12? 14? I think I bought it from Elderly.
I love it. It has dependably cranked out great tone in a wide variety of settings. Lately it looks pretty ratty, particularly where the lead attaches to the mic. I think its gigging days may be drawing to a close. The new P48 versions look good but I'm not seeing stateside places that sell them. Any recommendations for US dealers?

If it is a simple matter of cable wear and tear that is not hard to fix. Essentially, the transducer is opened up, the cable shortened (or replaced), soldered back together again = good as new.

Django Books in Seattle is a Schertler dealer and appears to carry the whole line of 48s:

I am intrigued by your suggestion. I'm a pretty good with a soldering iron. Have you opened a Dyn M before? It still works but the shock relief has broken off and the insulation is very worn. Do you just pry it open? I probably should put some heat shrink on it to strengthen it a bit unless you have a better suggestion. I ordered a new can of Shertler blue putty today from the Django books shop mentioned above (Thanks Martin!). You would think it would last forever, but it has gotten kind of oily and at a high temperature outdoor gig a couple of weeks ago in Florida it got gooey. It didn't hold the transducer on well and the gooey mess was hard to get off the mandolin.

Yes, I have opened up a Schertler DYN. They have changed them a few times, so it is probably worth checking with them as to how to 'crack' the one you have. This was a few years ago, and I recall using a hot air heat gun to loosen it up. It came apart in two halves, which looked like they had been glued together.

AFAIK, Schertler USA is in the Metro Seattle area, perhaps they can re cable it, does seem the newer cable may be an improvement..
