If I remember correctly . . . the Weber serial number system has varied over the years, and the serial number does not always give a definitive answer to dating. The only sure-fire way to determine age is to contact Weber and ask.

However, the Gallatin's are fairly recent to the Weber line, and they may fall into what I believe is the current scheme.

As I recall, the first number or two indicate the year. The last two numbers represent the month - so 3169412 could be December of 2003?

    Just a guess.

Anyone else with better info, please?

    Better info?!

    WEBER DATING & SERIAL NUMBERS

Weber acoustic guitars and mandolin family serial numbers are constructed:
YEAR / SERIAL NUMBER / MONTH MADE and/or SHIPPED

    Examples:
    9914308
1999 / 143 is the serial number of that instrument and model / August
    8244212
    2008 / 2442 as the serial number / December
    039906
    2000 / 399 as the serial number / June

3169412 translates to it being made and/or shipped in December, 2003, with the serial number 1694.

That depends, is the body made of Mahogany or Maple?

Is it a mahogany body with a partial scroll (a sort of curlicue ending in a point, and not a round button), and 'buckskin' color? And is the headstock symmetrical, without a scroll, with a big "Weber" name inlaid along with a Celtic knot? And does it have the Brekke original bridge (thin, with no thumbscrews)? If so, then it was probably a stock Gallatin from back in 2003. But Weber also made a great many customizations, so you would need to specify these.
