    Default Shakin Down The Acorns

Anyone know of some tab for this?

There's a short video of Andrew Marlin playing a mod'd version that's really caught my ear, and I'd like to learn the traditional version.

I don't know if there are tabs for this tune out there but here is a really nice version of the tune.......

I think this is on my 'to learn' list.

Yep. Saw that one, too. Just wondering of there was tab out there anywhere. Lots of banjo tab, but no mandolin (or fiddle) tab anywhere...

Shaking Down the Acorns (fiddle notation)

This is an Edden Hammons tune, also known as Shaking Off the Acorns. Typically played in A modal, with the fiddle tuned in ADAE. The first link I posted is Bruce Molsky's transcription of it, although you can also find Edden Hammons' originally recorded version notation in the Milliner-Koken Collection of American Fiddle Tunes.

I've taken Bruce Molsky's notation and added mandolin tablature in the attached PDF. I kept it in standard GDAE tuning, since it's not really necessary to go to ADAE for this. For obvious reasons, the mandolin can't do some of the fiddly stuff like play a shuffle bowing pattern or do a bow pulse in certain parts. But the bones of the tune are there, and you can experiment with how to give it a good rhythm, or veer off into your own variation.
