Default Shallar F style reverse (turn normal) tuners.

A customer wants his shallots replaced with the same. I ordered a set from LMI and they called an said none in stock and they're not going to reorder. I looked around online with no luck. Does anyone know of another source or has anyone ordered directly from schallar. Thanks.

You can always replace shallots with garlic. Works just fine!

Don't you just love spell check and auto correct?

So sorry, couldn't resist. I'll go to my corner now...

Try All Parts. They usually have them.

    https://www.allparts.com/mandolin-tuning-keys

You might want to call them to make sure they have them in the right orientation.

No, not shallots. But not "Shallar" or "Schallar" either -- and the OP managed to get all three variants into the first post! That's gotta be some kind of record. S-C-H-A-L-L-E-R. Schaller.

Actually green onions and a little garlic is a close second to shallot,

    Hello David,
I have NOS Schaller mandolin tuners that I can sell you. I have one set of A-style, one set of F-style, and replacement ivoroid and MOP buttons. I will email you the details.
    Best,
    Troy

So are we to assume from this that Schaller will no longer be offering their older style tuners? Anybody know?

I am pretty sure that is the case. I have been scouring the internet for Schaller A-style tuners.

I really like their previous model tuners. I am not sure why their business model precludes lower cost tuning machines.

Once you have tried the new Schaller GrandTune mandolin tuners you will never go back to the old Schallers. It has taken a while, but I have finally got 3 sets of the GrandTune tuners and one set is on a mandolin. Massive improvement on the old Schallers, not far off Waverly in quality. They are not quite as silky smooth as the Waverly's, but at less than half the price it is a no brainer for me, and I don't need to make ebony tuning knobs any more. Roughly twice as expensive than the old Schaller tuners, but well worth it. I suspect Schaller expect sales of the old tuners would tank if they keep making them, and I agree. After 23 years using the old Schallers, good riddance.

I'm more concerned about the length of the stems. On many mandolins (including the circa 2000 and up Gibson's) you'll probably find that the Grover buttons are hitting the sides of the headstock (with the exception of the Gibson Grovers). Schaller was always the answer for folks that had a problem with that length. Can anyone compare the new to the old?

I don't have any F tuners, but the A GrandTune stems are exactly the same length as the old. I would expect the same would apply to the F tuners, but don't know.

I realized I could just get the schematics off the web site for the new tuners and the old tuners. Simple, right? Nope. Apparently what was considered the important specs has changed. I will say this, it appears the screw holes won't all match up. Beyond that I have no idea.

David, if you still need reverse gear Schallers, I found a set that I thought I had, but I didn't speak up earlier because I figured I probably couldn't find them. Today I was looking for something else and, of course, found the tuners. They are gold plated and they are the old type with the stamped (rather than cast) plates, so they can be taken apart and put back together in different ways.

Do the new Schallers allow you to dis-assemble and then reconfigure the parts in any combination ? That was the best feature of the old ones- you could switch things around and get any configuration of buttons and forward / reverse. That allowed you to reconfigure them on old vintage snakeheads without drilling any new unnecessary holes.
