Default Weber Bighorn and Northfield Big Mon

Weber says the Bighorn has its biggest soundbox and the Northfield Big Mon has a larger soundbox than its other offerings. Apples to apples...are they generally alike?

Is the Bighorn still available from Weber?

    Thanks!

Al - Unless any Cafe member has actually owned both & can offer an opinion, the only way you'd know would be to have them side by side. My Lebeda mandolin is a larger than a standard mandolin, but it's nothing like a Northfield Big Mon,or a Weber Bighorn.

As 'Weber' mandolins are no longer a stand alone brand, they're part of ''The Two Old Hippies'' package, you'd have to contact them re.the availability of the Weber Bighorn. Their web page says that it's available from 'speciallity dealers' -so,it seems as though it should be available - a beautiful mandolin design,

The last i knew ... there was no longer a Weber Bighorn. But you could get any of the Weber "styles" made as a 2-point.

I can't answer your comparison question but i do own and love a Bighorn.

No, at least not the ones I've played, very different; Webers generally have their own vibe to them, as do Northfields.

I played on this Big Horn on my last visit to Lowes Vintage and it was a huge sounding box. Fwiw it did not sound like the 3-4 Webers I've heard and played. I'm mandolin poor atm but I would love to bring it home.

    Al,

It took me almost a decade to have the perfect timing of funding + availability for my Bighorn. It was well worth the wait.

Can't speak to the Northfield as I've never seen one up close and personal. Good luck in your search!
