    Great shot Al!

The path of totality was only about an hour and a half or so north of us here in Atlanta, but it but it was a complete hot mess on the interstates to get there. My wife and inlaws had planned to drive up to see it, but hearing about the craziness, opted to stay home and see the 97% coverage from my inlaws front yard. I was able to leave work early and meet up there and join the fun. Even at 97% it was pretty cool to watch.

I was actually not all that interested until I started hearing all the coverage on the radio... it was a fun experience!

We hit about 70% here in Rochester; went out to a local hilltop reservoir with my certified Eclipse Glasses and watched with a bunch of people who immediately became friends. (How to make friends at an eclipse sighting; loan out your Eclipse Glasses to people trying to view the eclipse via a pinhole in a cereal box.)

Sky was clear until the eclipse reached its max (or minimum, whatever). Then clouds rolled in and the crowd dispersed. I'm hanging on to the Eclipse Glasses until a total eclipse hits Rochester, April 2024.

I just got back from taking my grandson with me to experience it from the top of Monk's Mound, the Great Mound at Cahokia in Illinois outside of St. Louis. It is a special and sacred place, a UNESCO World Heritage site. There were a hundred or so people up there along with a kettle drum and Conch shell trumpet.

If you are ever near St. Louis you should see it. Nothing else like it in the world.

I missed it -- sitting on a jury in the county court house!

But I'm an optimist like Allen and my goal is to live until April 8, 2024 when a total eclipse will pass from Mexico across the middle of Texas, and Missouri, then southern Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, over northern New York, the northern tip of Maine, then across New Brunswick and Newfoundland. Should be excellent viewing in Cincinnati -- but right now I am looking for a report on the expected cloud cover for that day....

It was 96% in Bozeman. It got super still, and cold, like 20degrees in 5 min..

We watched the total eclipse from a fishing/tour boat out of Murrells Inlet SC. This turned out to be an excellent choice as the captain was able to maneuver to find a clear hole in the broken cloud cover.Being entertained by a pod of dolphins was an unexpected bonus.
Totality was awesome in the true sense of the word. No amount of pictures can really convey the whole experience. We'll certainly try to view the next one in 2024, probably up in the Adirondacks.

We had the total eclipse through broken cloud cover as well. We had one minute forty seconds of "totality". I think the max was about a minute longer but to me it wasnt worth traveling to gain more as traffic was predicted to be crazy.

It was a very cool experience to go through and I do appreciate it and recommend it.

That said, its a little like the Christmas hype. You so look forward to seeing it and do enjoy it but by the time it gets here with all the hype and hassel and frenzy and expectation and commercialism, you are also glad when its over and everyone just goes home.

    All back to normal.

Just like in 1970, I darkened a pane of glass using candle black and looked to the sky! We also tried the cereal box, which was fun too! Mostly, sitting in the yard with my wife.

I used a box from "Rogers Chocolates" as a camera obscura, worked just about as well as I thought it would. I can't believe I had the box still, and not filled with some kind of "stuff"!

We had 98% or so. What was amazing to me wasn't the muted light or the coolness, though they were notable, but the shadows. I was seeing shadows I had never noticed before. Both clarity and patterns were completely different than I am used to. I am outside every day so it was a very noticeable change from the normal.

I feel really remiss that I didn't do any tests to see what effect an eclipse has on the tone of my favorite mandolins. But I was able to sit in my back door protected from the sun by the roof eave and watch the transition with this last-minute idea. Getting a photo was an even further last-minute idea - about 10 minutes after our 97% coverage.

My daughter was in the "path of totality" in Clemson, SC, and a friend of hers got a couple of great shots, one of which was remarkably similar to Al's. I'll have to see if I can get a couple posted when I get home...

In St. Louis there were a couple of stars visible at totality.

Made the trip to Hopkinsville and got to see totality for the first time. Driving back from there... well.. it was still worth it.
I only made a couple of casual attempts at photographing the eclipse, but a simple digital camera with auto-focus is obviously not the proper tool.

I dropped my daughter off at school in Nashville that day, and experienced the totality driving back north on I-65 around Bowling Green, KY. Awesome sight to be in total darkness around 1 pm! Unfortunately, we had to get off the interstate and take back roads going back to Indy by way of Owensboro, KY, which added about 138 miles to our trip. We STILL got home before the poor folks stuck creeping up I-65 though. Overall, a cool experience. Great pic.
It ain't gotta be perfect, as long as it's perfect enough!

I was on a farmstead, checking out an irrigation well when the farmer brought out his welding helmet and we all got to see the crescent sun through the little window. Pretty cool even though it wasn't 100%. I got paid for a full day's work to see it and didn't have to use a vacation day like a colleague who went down south for that extra 3-4%.
