Looking for tips. suggestions, etc. on adding a lead part on Mand
Sorry if this is long--but I am looking for more mandolin specific input, as I have not recorded with mandolin before (In this case an electric Mandobird)
For a number of years I have played around with doing a semi-laid back cover of Led Zeppelin's straight ahead rocker--Communication Breakdown.
So I finally started recording it.
I have rhythm parts on 12 string guitar & classical guitar & then added another rhythm part on mandolin with the 2nd verse.
The three instruments are playing different by complementary rhythms & the classical part functions as the bass part in a way.
I like the way they fit together.
Now I want to add vocals & a lead/solo over the solo section & maybe in the outro.
So any tips on how to best proceed?
Playing, recording, etc.
I plan to experiment with improvising with a pentatonic scale type solo & with the melody line.
I plan to record it straight but may add some reverb or other effect, but no overdrive, etc to keep with the overall feel.
I might try it going direct into the digital recorder or using an amp via the mic, etc. (This would be played on a Mandobird-solidbody electric)
I think the mandolin would cut through the mix well for this, but if anybody has any tips, please let me know.
(At this point it is more in demo state--and I am not against borrowing an acoustic mandolin to re-do the rhythm part at least)
I have experience on home recording & playing with guitar & bass--so that helps
Thanks
Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?
