Thread: I need information on this vintage mandolin.

Default I need information on this vintage mandolin.

Hi everyone, Newbie here. I received this mandolin from my grandfather who passed many years ago. The only thing I know about it is that he took ownership of it around 1942 in Hawaii. If anyone knows anything about it and what it might be worth today it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

The bowlback experts will be along soon. It probably would help to post pictures of the back as well as closeups of the front and back of the headstock. Are there any labels?

It looks like an American Conservatory model #607 or #608 from Lyon & Healy. Here is a scan of a color catalog page from my 1912 L&H catalog.

Do a happy dance for anything north of $100.00 you can get for it. They don't bring a whole lot of money and regulatory fail to sell weekly on eBay.

Agreed! However, if it is in good shape they are nicely made mandolins and if you did want to play it, you could do a lot worse. Just make sure to string it with very light gauge strings like GHS A-240.

I agree with mi hermano, Diego. The AC mandolins can be some of the best $$ / value mandolins out there on the used / vintage market. And as Mike notes, they can often be picked up for very low prices. A smart mandolin player's choice.....
