Thread: Replacement strings for Fender FM-60E 5-string Electric Mandolin?

Default Replacement strings for Fender FM-60E 5-string Electric Mandolin?

I have a Fender FM-60E 5-string Electric Mandolin that desperately needs new strings. It seems to be tuned with the highest 4 strings the same as any mandolin (but the strings don't have octaves), with the additional string tuned to a C below the mando's G string (at least that's how I've been doing it).

Any idea who sells replacement strings & what I'd ask for? General Goog searches have proved fruitless.

Thanks much--excited to be a part of this forum.

Go to JustStrings.com, one of this sites advertisers , and buy single strings. They are available in pure nickel and stainless steel. For the C string I would buy a D guitar string and leave it tuned down a step. Shouldn't cause much of a problem. You can go lighter than acoustic mandolin strings or a bit heavier with a single course string model. The draw back is a 6.95$ shipping charge so buy enough strings to make it worth the added expense. Their prices are low enough that if you spread the shipping charge around over several sets of strings it will average out well. R/
    I love hanging out with mandolin nerds . . . . . Thanks peeps ...

Best place to buy strings for electric mandolin is emando.com. Martin Stillion is the owner and is a regular Cafe contributor. He has any string configuration you can possibly need and is always willing to answer any questions. Below is a link.

I had no clue about emando! That was made to order. Thank you. Also, mandobassman, now I have to check your post history to see if you play some kind of bass mandolin, or you double instruments, or what

Thanks, UsuallyPickin! I have bought violin strings from JustStrings and I like them--but had totally forgot about them. Doh!

for a C on my 4 string A50/EM150 i Use an .050" which I read Johnny Gimble did same on his. the other 4 would be your typical mandolin gauges say , 38/24/15/11..

since the FM60e uses ball end strings , you can put together a set from guitar singles
    at your local music shop.

you might find a guitar string set that , being close enough, you just don't use a string ..
