    Default ID Gibson banjo mandolin

What year would my new open-backed Gibson banjo mandolin be?
It has '865' stamped into the dowel and has 'The Gibson' in MOP on headstock and also engraved into tail piece.

That peghead shape indicates that it's a very early MB, probably 1918-9. There were no style numbers at that point, so the model is just "MB".

Wow that is 10yrs earlier than I was told when I bought it. Soon it will have its' dowel straightened and be 'back in play'.
    Thanks for the info.

Yeeha! It looks like they had one of everything in their instrument lineup. It is a fine looking piece of work for 100yrs old and it is fun to watch the face of friends who I hand the unopened case to. They are expecting something less weight than a couple of bricks.
Can't wait to fill that empty frequency range in an Irish session.

    That's a late '20s or '30s example with a resonator and a different headstock.
