Default Rigel G110 Custom for sale soon

This Rigel G110 Custom was recently acquired by a prominent dealer and Cafe member. He gave me permission to share the pictures. Recognized it as soon as I saw it because sure Ted Eschliman and I both played it at one of the Nashville NAMM Shows long ago. Believe I have a picture of myself playing it. I remember it sounding spectacular. You may not think, huh? but Peter Langdell is sort of a genius.

Enjoy the view. We love this kind of stuff.

Seems like any builder could paint up any mandolin to look that a way ..IF THEY WANTED TO, that is...Gaudy don`t make them sound any better...I let my talent speak for me and not a gaudy looking axe....Looks like something that is used for rock and roll music to me...

Like rock and roll is a bad thing ? and you can't use a mandolin for playing it ?

I typically like subtle and not gaudy, but I would play that. It would open up many conversations over the course of most evenings. Looks like the flames are inlayed on the fingerboard and not painted.

Like the way Jimmy Martin and his band dressed? Like Nudie suits? Like John Duffey´s stage banter?

What thread lock? The song's called, We Need a Whole Lot More of Jesus (And a Lot Less Rock and Roll), written by country music harmonicist and singer Wayne Rainey, first issued on Starday Records, and covered by a bunch of people, from the Greenbriar Boys (Ralph Rinzler on mandolin), to Linda Ronstadt.

I'm sure Rainey did it seriously, the others perhaps tongue-in-cheek, but it's just another example of a topical country gospel song, not too different from the Louvins' The Great Atomic Power or Thank God For Victory In Korea (Jimmie Osborne). Social opinions expressed in religious terms are OK with most everyone, agree with them or not, as long as they stay out of hateful areas.

Back to the topic at hand: I love that Rigel, and would dearly desire to walk into one of my local jams with that one over my shoulder! Since I'll never own a Shmergel Devastator, this could be the next best thing.

I have to say that I am too much of a traditionalist to appreciate the build and color palette of this particular instrument. But as with all things there is that player out there that can't wait to get their hands on this one. I wish them joy of it. R/

That mandolin would be great for me - this way, people would pay more attention to my mandolin, and less attention to my playing!

I owned a custom R100 many years ago and it was a stunning instrument . . . build, playablity, tone, looks - everything about it was top-notch - I would be more than willing to bet that this one has just as much quality as flash!

I'll start the bidding at $1000. Who's in?

I've always liked 'alternative takes' on mandolins,& i especially like the Rigels. Maybe not for the Bluegrass scene, but for Jazz & 'funky stuff' i think that they look the part.

This one was on sale at TAMCO in the UK for a while, once owned by Ted Eschliman. Chris Thile played a Rigel for a time,& in his hands, the one he played sounded very sweet indeed,

    I love rigels,
    And i dig that one.

It would create an expectation of something more than mere proficiency.

I recall seeing a bumble bee version at an old NAMM show. And i love them in blue too.

That raises a key question. Yes, I love the look of this mando, but since this has the finish of an electric guitar, rather than an acoustic guitar or mandolin, how does the tone of this instrument compare with its traditionally finished Rigel counterparts? Or, is that irrelevant because it is meant to mainly be played through its pick-up?

If only we had someone on the forum that had played it when it was brand new. Say, a guy that still had hair back then and wasn't yet a geezer...

Yea, it sounded freakishly good is my recollection. I happen to remember because when I saw it my first thought was, "there's no way this can sound like anything other than crap." I took that thought back in about two strums. Now, that was 13 years ago. Lot can happen to an instrument so in no way am I vouching for it now. I just know that it sounded great then, my opinion, a guy that leans towards traditional F mandolins but likes outside the box stuff. Most of Peter Langdell's high end mandolins surprised a lot of people. Just ask Jimmy Gaudreau who used to play one. And there was this kid that played one with a trio for several years before the big companies started giving him mandolins. Thile I think was his name. Saw him play it close up on stage at Winfield once. Sounded killer.

I wasn`t in any way knocking Rigel mandolins, just commenting on the way this one was painted up, I suppose there is a place for everything in this world so I am sure someone will take it and do it justice...I also have nothing against Rock and Roll, I just stated that this mandolin looks like it belongs in a rock band the way it is painted up...

We all have different tastes and as I said I am sure someone will want it and we will probably hear a lot about it in the future...

If had been around in 1971 it could have been used for Maggie May.

I think I saw an old Chevy Tradesman van with that exact paint job once.

It needs a bumper sticker that says "if this mandolin's a rockin, don't come knockin"

Maybe a fish eye window in the back too.
