Question Mandolin cords for January Wedding

New mandolin player. Guitar cords for January Wedding (capo on second fret) are C, G, D and Am. Any suggestions on mandolin harmony with that guitar series? I can find some pick sounds on strings low G/D they seem in the ballpark. I can't seem to find the right two finger cords and any capo just raises it all too far up. Any suggestions? Many thanks.

Huh? Chords don't "harmonize" with chords. You can play different inversions of a major or minor triad, for example (and so on for more complex chords, like 7ths, maj7ths, 9ths, etc), but these chords don't harmonize with the other inversions: they just duplicate the very same notes, but usually in different octaves.

The mandolin chords for C, G, D, and Am are all fairly easy to play with all three triad notes [1 - 3 (or 3b) - 5), so there's no particular reason to learn two-finger versions, in my opinion. No capo is necessary.

Harmonize probably not the correct term. The standard C, G, D and Am with/without triad notes, in rhythm or counter, don't seem to fit the tune at all. Cant find the cords, but the must be there.

    Avett Brothers song:

If I listened to the right Youtube:
    Recorded in key of A. Use chords A, D, E, Bm. Progression is A D A D E D A. later does A Bm D

That would explain your mention of a Capo on fret 2 of guitar and playing G, C, D, & Am

Thanks Phil!! Those are the cords; would have taken me as a new learner a long time to figure that out.

Your answer, and thinking that capo location actually changes the cord, I found a site that has a nice chart for that. Maybe not needed for experienced players but the for us new learners getting used to two finger/three finger cords to play along, this site is pretty good:

    Have a great week.

You're welcome, Jasper. chords, not cords. That's something different.
