    Default Bopping to Tom Tulley

I play this tune at sessions and it always makes me want to bop around the room for sheer joy! It's been around in tune books since the late 18th century, is sometimes known as "Tom Tolley's Hornpipe", and has a very "Handelian" feel to it. I'm playing it on tenor guitar lead with bass and guitar backing. I felt like standing up and "performing" this one, rather than just sitting and recording as usual - it's always felt like a bit of 18th century rock'n roll... It's played in G - capo on 2 and voiced in F. Play it LOUD, either through good speakers or headphones. You can get the music, tab and chords from my website:

Great playing Will, and a cool song. Hey, is yours a plectrum guitar? then capoed to tenorize? It's a great sounding box.

Awesome! Great tune, love the way you play it. I'm gonna have to learn this one. Thanks for the sheet music on your website too!

The tune fits the player - lighthearted, friendly, with a sunny disposition

Hi dcav - my guitar is a standard CGDA tuned tenor. One of the reasons I capo on the 2nd for some keys is that I also play mandolin. Capo on the 2nd means that I can play one string down from a mandolin and retain the same fingering.

So: capo on 2nd on the tenor, play in F voicing to sound in G - and start a tune on string 3
= play in G on the mandolin - and start the same tune on string 2 - same fingering!

Lazy, but convenient. For stuff in Bb, Eb, C and F etc., or stuff I don't do on mandolin, I just play it straight with no capo.
