2K? Wow! Then the pricing today has increased way over what inflation has. 2K in 2002 would have the same buying power as about 2.8K today. Looked like the most recent F9 was close to 4.8K.

The seller is adamant that Gibson sent these out with the black paint all over them... Cause he used to to work there, so he says.
I guess that must have been the experimental black Rustoleum spray paint phase Gibson went through.

Maybe he was in the spray it black department.

The original "normal" Vintage Brown finish on the early (2002-~2004) F-9 models is very thin and easy to damage or wear through. That said, that thinness has often been described by Gibson (in print) as part of the out-of-the-box tone and volume of these banjos.
If this is a 3rd party finish over the top of the original finish, I'd guess the tone and volume have been changed by it.
If it is an original custom finish from the Gibson factory, that might be an interesting F-9 to test drive.
My 2002 F-9 and most that I've seen do have visibly rough scroll work in different areas. These were not intended to be boutique mandolins. The inside was the focus by Gibson at that time, and the tone and volume tend to speak for themselves.

Did you mean to say "these little guitars"?...That said, that thinness has often been described by Gibson (in print) as part of the out-of-the-box tone and volume of these banjos...

Ahhhh, my fingers have betrayed me...
Ironically, I drool when I play the mandolin too.

Yup, just saw it this evening. It's still black.
Btw, those wide frets are not the "standard" thin frets that are usually on a new F-9. Might be a factory custom fret job, or might be aftermarket.
