I just bought a set of D'A Nickel Bronze - I'll report when they installed, anyone using them?

I like the EFW74's. Sound good on my hybrid F4.

I was thinking flatwounds too. I prefer Thomastik-Infelds and their wound A strings to the D'Addario set, but they are considerably more expensive.

Both the Curt Mangan nickel and the GHS pure nickel are quite a bit more mellow (to my ear anyway) than PB. So are Thomastiks, but they are 4X the price. I've used them on a variety of mandolins. Any flat wound or flattop is quick a bit easier on the fingers are well.

FW might need some adjustment to the nut, with their wound A.

It buzzes a bit in mine.

The Nickel Bronze D'addario will get you a little closer to what you want, but probably not as close as some of the other suggestions. I would say go to the extreme with the flat wounds or whatever the best idea from that camp is and then see if that's too much or not.

I recently put on a set of Gabriel Tenorio's brass mandolin strings mando (gauged like the D'Addario custom mediums by request) and am loving them! Slightly darker tone (less high overtones), and better tuning stability too. I got a set of his phosphor bronze mando strings as well, and will put them on after my gig this weekend.

I have been using them on my main mandolin as well as my guitars. I plan to switch other mandolins over to them too.

Yes, they are much more expensive, but you won't have to change them for a year. Over the course of a year it's actually less expensive then changing them once a month.
