    Great idea. I have a mandolin with a "collapsed" top (top too thin). I have fixed it (and it hold for over a year now) but the top still look ugly. I might want to copy this idea to make a travel mandolin.

    I used a Dremel tool with a cut-off wheel (so no teeth) then sanded as necessary.

    One change I made subsequent to the original posting of photos was to add a second dowel to the upper shape-maker. (I don't know what else to call it; you'll see what I'm talking about from the picture.) It kept rotating out of position.
