Interesting, but this photo's labeling is a bit puzzling. I am assuming a fern F-5 and a '30's one. But why is there "since 1919"? There were no F-5's in 1919 and if they are just talking about f-styles in general, they go back further than that. The small type refers to the history of the F-5 and mentions LL but also says they go back to 1922.

And the cynical side says that Gruhn did the right thing buy keeping all those instruments off the market and crashing prices further.

Once a rarity, and snapped up at $250,000, not the vintage dealers have many, with asking prices topping out at about $165k, and many below that, and none selling. If people get the idea that rare vintage instruments aren't all that rare, why pay top dollar. With boomers downsizing, there's no telling how many instruments may be coming on the market. Keeping 500 off all at once? That's big.

What's bigger, though, is that you can make arrangements to go play them.

More wonderful instruments gone unplayed. Like rare and nearly extinct animals being killed just so they can be stuffed and gawked at. Sorry but I don't see the value in this story. I see tragedy in more ways than one.
