    Default The Sound of Silence

I just noted down the basic melody for 'The Sound of Silence' as I am going to have a go at a chord melody version!
For some reason I have always found difficulty in learning the words!
Anyway I thought this might interest someone....

I recommend keeping the song in the original Dm, as your first example did, but shifting it up an octave and starting on the D string on the tenor.

    ------4

You'll have easy chording as you go.

You'll hold some of those notes, but I just used tab as an easy way to get the notes across.

I look forward to hearing this!

I've been toying with the idea of buying a tenor guitar. How does the right hand technique differ from the mandolin? Can it be played with a pick?

Yes get one (or two) just treat them like a big mandolin
If you play the mandolin, you will be able to play the tenor, over time you will develop different fingering & technique but it will all come naturally.
