The kicker is that it's a flatback

Looks a bit like a cuatro or or related South American instrument.

I agree with Bertram, shipping costs way more then the 'mandolin' is worth. Nice wall hanger.

That's the most exaggerated "volute" on the neck, that I've seen on any instrument. Looks a bit rough-and-ready, but surely a near-unique design.

You mean that base for a glue-on electronic tuner?

Actually, I meant the "hand stop" at the base of the headstock. Many older guitars had a diamond-shaped protuberance there, presumably to tell the player where to rest the hand in "first position." These features were called "volutes."

This li'l guy has a prong that sticks out maybe more than an inch. Never seen nothin' like it, no siree Bob...

Now I see it. That's more of a sword-hilt, I'll say. I guess the instrument doubles as a hand-to-hand combat weapon, and the hilt prevents it from being wrestled from your grip. Picture Bluto in Animal House trying to revive that combat technique.

That would certainly be nothing to brag about, and could even give one a serious inferiority complex.
