It's election season here in Central PA, but it's an "off-year," meaning that only the minor offices are up for vote, like District Magistrate, or what most people call the Justice of the Peace.
Last night the doorbell rings around supper time, and a nice young man introduces himself and explains that he is running and would like to tell me why. I let him know that my wife and I were about to sit down to supper and I'd have to take a pass, but I thanked him for stopping by.
As he is leaving, he says "Good luck learning Chinese." I give him a look that shows I have no idea what he is talking about, and he points to the book that he can see through the living room window lying on the sill: "Mandarin for Dummies."
I don't know if he could hear the laughter after I shut the door or not.
