Spoke to Sam this weekend at Merlefest. He says they are having "copyright issues" with some of the music involved in the documentary. But...the plans are to release it to the public when are the legalities are figured out.
Have a good one cafe!
This is whatw they hav to say on the facebook page... dated April 25 I believe
"We've gotten quite a few emails and messages recently asking about the status of a commercial release of the film. Here's a quick update:
We've been working diligently for more than a year to license all the songs, images, and archival footage in the film. This is a gargantuan task. There are 40+ songs in the film, and with each, we have to deal with multiple writers and publishing companies.
We also have to negotiate with record labels for any album cuts used, plus the copyright holders of every archival image and clip in the film. In some cases, there are no good public records of who controls these copyrights, and we have to go down numerous rabbit holes to find the right company. When dealing with the larger conglomerates, the negotiations often move slowly, especially for an indie film like this one.
In addition, we have been forced to re-edit portions of the film to replace songs, photos, or footage with more easily licensed options.
All that to say, though it may seem we have been silent, there has been constant activity behind the scenes to get the film ready for a commercial release.
Stay tuned for updates, because we're getting very close now. Thanks for your continued enthusiasm for the film!"

Given the problems that Sam is facing getting licenses for "Revival", it amazes me that "Blue Grass Country Soul" made it through the mine field to be released on DVD.
At least I have one of the original posters. As far as the dvd, I'll believe it when it's made available to the public for purchase.

Thanks for chasing this down. I, too, have been wondering when it would become reality.

I've been involved in a film project set in the Shetland Islands that has been in the preparatory stages for nine years already. Its difficulties are very different from the ones affecting the Sam Bush film, but the process has been an eye-opener. I know a fair bit about the barriers that stand in the way of anyone wanting to write books, but even compared to print, the challenges of seeing a film to fruition are gigantic.
