Thread: Forthcoming Irish Traditional Music album

Default Forthcoming Irish Traditional Music album

First apology is for the self-promotion... And second is that there is only one track of mandolin on this... Primarily playing melody on tenor banjo but there is a lot of bouzouki on here too. In fact it's all strings.

This is the first full-length traditional album I have brought out. It's out on May the 1st but it is available to preorder on the bandcamp. For the past couple of years I have been messing around with different kinds of triplets and ornaments and there is a good lot of that to be heard here. Hope it's of interest to some of you.

Very nice, Alan. Love the relaxed pace and feel, and the fiddle and tenor banjo are right in the same pocket.

Very nice. I love your banjo playing and the pace is perfect to my ears.

Here's a set of rare marches from the album. I'm using a lot of ornaments in this one.

You have a very fine duo there, Alan. Lovely feeling of togetherness in the playing.

This mandolin track is now available to stream. I'm playing my Rigel G-110 here on these polkas.

Is that you also playing the oud on another video? Thought I was the only one using it in trad music.... the bass is superb for accompanying higher octave instruments.

Yes that's me with the oud. This is the video https://youtu.be/ptbZT-gDJy4
I'm playing that very tune on the album too while Rachel plays hardanger on that track.
I've mostly been playing melody on mine but I agree about the bass/accompaniment suitability. Hoping to get to use it a bit more in the future.

Very nice selection of tunes! Reminds me a lot of the early 70s recordings. Will pick this up soon, for sure!

Thanks MooglePower, the 70s comparison is very welcome!

For anyone else interested we're down to our last dozen physical copies so pretty soon a download purchase will be the only option until (if even) we do a reprint. Plenty of nerdy info on tune sources in the booklet for those that are into that.
