    Default Spring batch

    From top to bottom:

    * 17 fret 8 string mandolin (vavona / redwood burr).
    * Short, 19" scale OM (quilted maple).
    * Long scale, 640mm zouk (quilted maple).

I'm really looking forward to seeing how the maple turns out, as it has some series quilting:

Would this be now my Octave Mandolin, John?

Anyways, what can I say... this beast is a LOT of fun, and it's beautifully made. Sounds awesome. Looks amazing. Exactly what I was hoping for. john is a total gentleman too - pleasure to deal with. I had some banking woes (still need to sort that internet banking out!) but it was no bother. Topped off with a saunter around dartmoor on the way home

Just wish I could justify the zouk too... but... sadly not - it was ruddy brilliant too

    Thumbs up Re: Spring batch

Thanks Rob, glad you're having fun, hope your bandmates have recovered from the shock of a fully "Electric Badger" and that no one wielded the axe, Pete Seeger style

BTW, Rob brought a very interesting Mellotron pedal with him for testing which I was really quite taken with...

I've posted these already in another thread, but for posterity, here' the photos of the finished OM and Zouk, the mandolin shown in the original post is still waiting for it's finish to stop shrinking before I rub and buff, so more on that another time...

That electric bouzouki sounds amazing, I'd definitely like one myself some day down the road.

Yes of course: the OM has gone to Rob, but that 'zouk is still for sale: https://www.mandolincafe.com/ads/114096, but yes I'm up for commissions too, you'll need to click through to my contact details on my website (below) and either email or facebook message me for that.

I think it was this one that Rob had, but basically, used with no dry signal, it turns your instrument into an organ/cello/choir, and used with a mix of wet and dry it adds a harmony backing to whatever you're playing, so if you fancy a full choir going "Ooooo Aaaah" behind you then this is the pedal for you

In the video for the OM woth the 19" scale length you mentioned needing to go heavy on the g strings becuase of the shortness of scale. You have 48's on the one you demonstrated.

I play a Paul Hathaway OM with a 19" scale. It has recently been adjusted and set up by AJ Lucas of Lincoln. I use standard D'Addario octave mandolin strings with 46s rather than 48s and they work well. Just thought you might try 46s if you haven't yet.

    Great looking and sounding instruments!

    best,
    Daniel

RE: the Mellotron pedal - sure sounds like a Mellotron, without the tuning issues! I found some YouTubes demos of it. Pretty darn cool, like having your own personal wayback machine

So sorry to have forgotten to say your work is excellent as always, John! I got distracted by the pedal.
