Default My First Octave Mandolin/Tenor Guitar.

I've been debating whether to post these pics for about a week, as when I see the quality of some of the instruments that are posted on here I am very conscious of the gulf between my efforts and the beauties that others build....but anyway, here goes!
I've been wanting a tenor guitar for a while but funds will not allow it.So when I found out that the woodworking group (that I volunteer at once a week teaching) was closing down I decided that for the last few weeks I would make a start on something for myself.
The neck and body are Mahogany with Oak inlay and the fretboard is maple. All the wood has been reclaimed from Southwell Minster, which is a 12th century cathedral about 12 miles away from where I live. All the hardware has been stripped of an old junker that was donated to our group, and the fret wire is left over from a previous Electric Guitar project...the only thing I bought was the mother of pearl fret markers and a set of strings. So the whole thing has cost me less than £10.

Its no Gibson but I'm pretty pleased for a first attempt...trouble is now I've got the bug to do it again without the mistakes.

You have no need to be so modest. That is outstanding and for less than £10 - I'm envious. I'm afraid that it's unlikely that you will find a cure to rid of the bug.

That's made of 900 year old wood? Super cool!

Parts of the building are 900 years old.I would guess that the reclaimed timber is probably 100-200 years old.

    Looks great!
Is that a strip of oak down the centre of the sound board?
    How does it sound?

Hey, you built an instrument. That puts you ahead of the curve already. And if your first instrument is playable, that puts you even further ahead. Nice work, keep building!

I think the headstock is my favorite part. I really like the reclaimed wood as well.
