I've been debating whether to post these pics for about a week, as when I see the quality of some of the instruments that are posted on here I am very conscious of the gulf between my efforts and the beauties that others build....but anyway, here goes!
I've been wanting a tenor guitar for a while but funds will not allow it.So when I found out that the woodworking group (that I volunteer at once a week teaching) was closing down I decided that for the last few weeks I would make a start on something for myself.
The neck and body are Mahogany with Oak inlay and the fretboard is maple. All the wood has been reclaimed from Southwell Minster, which is a 12th century cathedral about 12 miles away from where I live. All the hardware has been stripped of an old junker that was donated to our group, and the fret wire is left over from a previous Electric Guitar project...the only thing I bought was the mother of pearl fret markers and a set of strings. So the whole thing has cost me less than £10.
Its no Gibson but I'm pretty pleased for a first attempt...trouble is now I've got the bug to do it again without the mistakes.
