The ultimate "Washtub Bass"!!! Love it thanks!
That was magnificent.
Thile's performance with Jon Batiste & Stay Human on that Late Show clip can't be beat for "tight," but man... that was impressive, on both a musical and logistical level! I can't imagine what the rehearsals must have been like for this.
They look like they were having such a great time! Who wouldn't want to be part of that? I agree with Foldedpath- that was Magnificent!

These kids are probably too young to remember Frank Zappa, but the arrangement and whimsical nature of the transitions made me think back to some of his funkier stuff.
Amazing.

Great stuff. Thanks for posting this. I had never heard of the "Apartment Sessions," and my wife and I watched a bunch of these this weekend. I never did research who the musicians were beyond NYC area artists (and I can't at work now). Are they Julliard students/alumni?
20 again?...........Nope.
I will guess (without any knowledge) that they practice together in a regular rehearsal space, all together, and for the videos they arrange themselves in what looks like an apartment setting. They are just that tight.
What a small world, I actually used to play in high school jazz bands with the electric bass player back when I was a pianist. He went to Berklee and lives in Brooklyn area I think, so this is probably a bunch of Berklee kids and friends living in that area.
I agree with mugbucket, kind of thought I was going to hear peaches in regalia bust out of that wacky interlude. This is so incredible, I hope Thile or other guys in Punch Bros have seen this. I'm sure they'd appreciate the musicianship. Also as much of a hassle it must have been to set it up I'd imagine breaking it down was just as bad. You'd have to do it piece by piece in order. The room with the drums was pretty crammed as was the main room obviously. I was feeling a little clostrophobic for them. The bass clarinet(?) guy had it good.
Sweet. And a Bassoon! That's part of somethin!

That's a great arrangement. I'd love to see these folks on Prairie Home Companion

This one even has mandolin content! These apartment session videos are amazing.
My god, this one is so joyful it makes their My Oh My cover sound like Dies Irae in comparison.
These are amazing! Never subscribed to a youtube feed as quick.
That's great not just because it's great music and tons o' fun, but no one cares who is playing, or what they're playing. It's just a simple huge blast.
