Not to argue with the great D. Stiernberg, but this is how I play it. I use a lot of bar chords. The 2nd part of the B section the G/B7 and G/Bb07/Am/Daug are 1/2 measure each. I'll have to try it Don's way to see if I can incorporate that into my version. Thanks!

The D#dim is actually also B7b9.

Sure enough the melody note on the Cm is an A, making that change a Cm6 which coincidentally has the same tones as F7

G-Bbdim-Am-D+ is in the turnaround area and consequently kinda up for grabs...could also be G-E7-Am7-Dwhatever or maybe even G6-Bb7-A7-Ab7..

Sounds like Dawg and Don follow essentially these same changes we are talking about

Whenever I play Georgia on My Mind (on guitar) I include the verse (because nobody knows it) go into blowing right away on the chorus (because everybody knows it). But there are songs, like My Funny Valentine, where you just have to skip the verse, because it's so incongruous with the chorus (as are the lyrics).

Now I wonder, how do you handle (voice) a G6 chord against a major seventh in the melody?

Ralph: The G6 and Gmaj7 are both "G major" chords. Depending on whether & where you're trying to voice the maj7, the G6 4-2-5-X voicing (or any other G6) serves as a great back up chord for a vocalist singing or soloist playing a maj7 tonality. No conflict at all.
