Default When a cafe cllassified ad stays up but the seller won't respond?

I've done many deals with Mandolin Cafe members and never had the least problem, and maybe this isn't a big thing and happens all the time, but it's frustrating. He has what I want, I want to pay him what he's asking, but he doesn't respond to emails, for over two weeks. Should I just give up and assume it's gone and he doesn't tend to his ad? Anyone had a similar situation?

    Thanks,
    Bruce

Yeah, I'd assume it's gone and they just are going to let the ad time out rather than deleting it - maybe they forgot the password they set for managing the ad (spoken as someone who regularly forgets passwords!). Other possibility is that stuff is going to their spam inbox and they're unaware of it. That's happened to me before when I've sold stuff.

TBH - maybe 2 of 10 replies I get from cafe classifieds go to junk mail. I've tweaked on my outlook junk mail settings but once in a while one lands there.

I'm finding that some responses to ads I have up are going to my junk folder in my hotmail account. I'm not sure how to fix it. I try to check my junk mail folder daily now. It's possible I missed some, but I don't think so. I suspect other sellers might be experiencing the same issues and not realize it. At least it's possible.

This has happened to me, also. Very frustrating, especially when it is a good deal and I know I'm the first one to see it because I have been refreshing the classifieds. I know the guy just listed it minutes before, I respond -- expecting a reply in a few minutes, like a "normal" person would do who wants to sell something -- and nothing! I respond again a few minutes later. Nothing! The next day I respond again. Nothing. A couple weeks later I get an email that says, sorry that item has been sold. Yeah buddy, thanks a lot. You dirty X%#!!XX&* so and so!!! This has happened more than once here. (I've pretty much given up trying to buy here, I just view the listings mostly for entertainment, at this point) I wish there was some way for the "first responder" to reserve the item like on eBay -- the first person to see it and click it, gets it. That is the fair way. This system is more like Craigslist and relies upon how active the seller wants to be or who they want to sell it to. Like ya say, frustrating.......

ps NEEDLESS TO SAY If I am a seller trying to get someone to buy my stuff, I'm going to check every email I've got, spam filter, etc.......

I have had the same issue as Jeff, it just doesn't seem it is worth the effort. On more than a few occasions I was ready to buy with no response.

I had this problem a few weeks ago. I pm him and made an offer, he never answered but marked it sold to Jeff, that my name. Tried contacting several times more and never heard from him. He finally reran the ad and mentioned me and we finally got in touch. He got my emails but I never got his, in junk mail or anywhere.

I have replied to emails routed to me from my classified ad and the email did not go through. To be clear, someone sent me a question about an ad I posted and when I replied to that email, the reply didn't go through. After double checking by copying the email address and sending a completely new email, I found that my initial response to their query did NOT go through. That being said, I always reply to a classified ad query with a new email.

The upshot then is, they may have replied to your query and you didn't get their reply... jus sayin'.

I had this happen to me recently where I could not get a response from the seller so after a few weeks, finally I took his name from the ad and did a 411 search and I phoned him.
He had not received any of my emails.
We did the deal right there over the phone.
    Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Very interesting responses! What I assumed was indifference or aloofness on the part of sellers, is actually emails not being received, or so they say. This is a big, big problem if you are trying to sell something! Posting the seller's phone number on the ad might help, but again, most people these days don't answer their phones, either! Obviously, if it is a store selling an instrument, you can look up the store's phone number and call them.

The store is also happy to sell you the item and in most cases it will be a good transaction. Most of the Café sponsors are pretty solid and will treat right. If you are selling an items you should keep in mind that you have competition

Hi Bruce! yes I have been missing in action for about 7 years now due to illness and treatments.
I am still kicking though despite the dire prognosis and I have become interested again so you will probably get sick of me before long. lol

I have had a similar experience. I answered an ad about a set of Rubner tuners and the seller replied that they were still available but when I said I was ready to pay he never replied even after two or more emails. In that case it could not have been a problem with the board email since I had his email. I guess he just decided not to sell. I would have appreciated some sort of reply, but what can you do?

A lot of times, answers to ads get caught up in spam filters, and a lot of us don't think of checking our spam folders often or ever. I know I've lost a few Craigslist deals that way, for instance.

He did me the same way. After telling him I would take them several times over several days he finally said they were sold. But he answered my earlier emails quickly. He even text me extra pictures and we talked by text message. But then stopped texting me later when I wanted them. Obviously he was picking and choosing who he wanted to sell them to.
