    Default Getting bumped offline

    Scott,

I used to log in and stay logged in to the Cafe site. Over the last few days I get logged out after a time of inactivity.

Is this something new from the administrators end?
Does it help with the site's traffic?

It is a minor nuisance to me, I'd rather stay logged in but if it helps traffic it's not a big problem. Just curious.

    Thanks,
    BJ

Wow. Never heard the accusation we'd log members out in order to increase traffic. Trying to wrap my head around what perceived advantage that appears to provide or how that might be useful to a site owner.

Nothing has changed. The forum software has been a stable version for years. Browsers, on the other hand, are updated constantly, as is personal firewall software and updates to personal computers. Something has changed on your end--I know, I know, the answer no one likes.

If you're checking the "Remember Me" button when logging in you can stay logged in for months, years. That you're getting bumped off means the rules have been changed on your end. You'll need to look into your browser's cookie rules which shouldn't be difficult, for starters.

Some operating systems have an auto disconnect feature for idle connections. If you're logging into the Cafe from a work network your company might be doing this automatically. If you've recently upgraded your OS, browser, or home router I'd check there first. Try searching their help for "idle connections".

Hey this happens to me as well, but I know its my computer doing something, because in addition to the café, there are a number of sites I stay logged into, Amazon, Facebook, some professional forums, etc., and every now and then I have to log back in and when I do I have to log back into all of them. Every single one.

    Thanks for the info.
I'll look on this end to see if I can find the answer. I did recently update my browser, (Fire Fox). If this fails, I'm visiting my granddaughter next week. She's almost seven and knows more than I do about computers.

I am generally logged in all the time with no problems. I click on The Cafe icon on my toolbar and I am in right away. However, there are times when I clean out the cache on my computer and do a cookie clean-out, and after this I have to log in to some sites that I am also automatically signed to, but not the Cafe, oddly enough. It just keeps behaving beautifully! I am still using Windows 7 and Firefox as my browser.

When I last logged in, several days ago, I found two "Remember me" check boxes. One near the top of the page and a second one near my login information. I made sure both were checked and I haven't been bumped since.
