Thread: Gilchrist "Current builds" page

  1. #1

    Default Gilchrist "Current builds" page

The new website has, in addition to comprehensive spreadsheet describing the instruments Gilchrist has already built, a table describing the current batch (#49) he's starting this week. So the inevitable batch photos that will hit late summer/early fall will make more sense.

You are not kidding. 16 instruments, including something like nine Model 5s.

Not sure, but I think that this week, #767 went from being a guitar to being an octave mandolin. A batch that includes three Model 5 octave mandolins. Criminy. And the last included two Model 5 mandocellos and a Model 5 octave. That is a lot of big scrolls!

Looks like things are starting to take shape on the fall crop. Some bigguns in there.

I just had a chance to play 748 this week, it was not "awake" yet. It was nice, and I hope to try it again after breaking in. It was my first Gil experience.

Very cool photos--that's a lot of work!

What the scoop with the flowerpot inlay these days--are we allowed to use it again?

What an impressive website! And it's kind of a thrill to look up my Model 1 #64309. I bought it used so it was great to get a little more background information on it. Like the serial number was used twice by mistake, so technically mine is 64309a. And now I know for sure that it has a red spruce top.

Whole lotta "side bound" action going on. I've always been partial to that myself. That'll be the first side-bound octave I can recall seeing.
