Thread: Solid guitar linings

    Default Solid guitar linings

Hi , I was wondering has anyone ever cut there top or back lining for a guitar out of a solid piece of spruce or mahogany. Would it work? I would like to use solid linings on a build but was wondering if it would work rather than bend and laminate strips to make a solid lining.
    Thanks, Walter

It will work fine, are you thinking of bending a thicker piece instead of several thin ones.
I cut from a solid piece of mahogany, but then saw the kerf slots to make it bend easier. The triangle shaped kerfing gives you more of a gluing surface than lining, and bending lining to fit the curves accurately is a lot more work than making kerfing, IMHO.
