I'm just like you it looks nice but haven't heard anything, but i know they make some nice instruments so i would think it would be fine. It's on my want list , which is pretty long, but I'll buy one someday

I prefer 8 strings to 4, but I love Mustangs--so it would be cool.
There is also the Warren Ellis doubleneck--Mandostang & Tenor guitar
Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?

I run a Mandostang through a Digitech multi-effects box plugged into a Vox mini 5 rhythm amp, and it provides a lot of interesting voices. I've played it regularly for about 6 months and everything still works fine. The Mandostang feels a little bigger/heavier than a Mandobird. The translucent cherry finish is pretty sharp. I've never played an electric that cost over a grand, but for three or four hundred bucks the Mandostang does alright.

thumbler, hows the output of the pickup and the playability, i also own a mandobird but find it plays very rough?

The Mandostang might be a little smoother playing than the Mandobird, but I still like playing the bird.
I rarely play clean settings, and the 'stang's pickup output is adequate for the dirty sounds I seek through modeling amplification.
The tuning pegs are on the left side - the bird's are on the right. And the cutaways on the Eastwood are left side higher and right side lower, whereas the Epiphone's cutaway's are right side higher and left side lower.
    The bird's chirp's a little cheaper.

Arrived today. Rook about ten minutes to set up. Octaves are correct. E string is a bit weak. Will search the forums on possible solutions. Really sounded great through my Mooer pedals through our sound system tonight! Great instrument for the price!

So after some tinkering, the balance from the G string to the E string is much better. I raised the E string end of the pickup and lowered the E string and other 3 to a lesser extent. The result is a nice balace and it is still easy to play. Woot!

The more I play my Mandostang, the more I like it! If you want a nice entry level 4 sting, you can't go wrong.
