    Smile Mandobird Pickup help

I've had my mandobird VIII in the closet, more than a year, I wanted more experience with my acoustic mandolin.

I managed to tune it, but I have now a problem due to my lack of experience with electric instruments. I bought the almuse pickup MB8L, and I have a peavey amp.

The question is: Which is the high of the pick up in relation with the strings? far or close to the strings? there is any standard distance in mm for the pickup and the poles?

Thanks in advance, and excuse my english!

When I upgraded my mandobird pickup I raised the side near the e string to beef it up a little. But in truth I only get a satisfactory sound out of it when using an effect pedal. My fender electric sounds good even straight into the amp.

To help the E against the others I the keep pickup low, and raise the E screw(s) high. If you want more signal strength you can add a boost pre-amp or pedal, but it should be ok without.

Push the e strings down on the highest fret: the pickup should be a minimum of 2mm from the pickup on the e string. Then adjust the bass side down from there until you get a balanced sound.

    Thanks for the information!

I wanted an standard or optimal position to begin withe the sound calibration!

The question now is: the poles must to be at the level of the pick up top?

    Thanks to you all!!

No. They can be higher or lower, as needed.
