Default I need a "Life is Good" song.

Hi Cafe dwellers. My girlfriend's son is getting married and I need to come up with "Life Is Good" kind of song to play at the wedding.

Here are the instructions I have been given: "they want a simple song to express how happy and satisfied they are with their lives just the way they are right now, simply stated "hey man, I got the girl/boy, dog, friends, balance, nature, happiness. I am richly blessed in the life I have"

Here are two songs that convey the feeling of what I want (however neither of these quite makes the cut).

    Thanks everyone!

Looking for something Old Time or Bluegrassy?

We sang the Carter Family's "Give Me Your Love and I'll Give Mine" at our son's wedding.

"That's How I Can Count On You" is also very positive.

Maybe it would help if I said, forget about the wedding part. I'm only looking for a Life is Good song.

Here's another one that comes close: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1-zDNtLycA

    Thanks!

That's a tough one. How about Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World"

    Mandolin/mandola "chord melody" version:

Sam Bush's song Everything is Possible from the new album has a great feel. The lyrics may not be exactly what you're after, but the vibe is right. Worth a listen.

If you remove the wedding part, Travis Tritt's "Great Day to Be Alive" has the vibe as well.

    And, congratulations!

Thanks for the suggestions. They have decided to go with the teenybopper one.

It is amazing how hard it is to find a Life Is Good song. Not so hard to find a Life Is Tough song . . .

I immediately thought of Simon and Garfunkel "Feeling Groovy" .

But upon listening to it again, after how many decades, well maybe. The melody is great, and on mandolin would be excellent. But the words are a little dated.

Maybe not so good for a wedding, but, "The Good Times Outweigh the Bad" by Flatt & Scruggs is a good one.

Life doesn't get better than this:

It seems to meet all your requirements...and it's fun on the mandolin as well! (Play in D, A and G chop cords. Delaney and Bonnie sing in C, but it works better on mandolin in D)

Wait, your going to play at your girlfriend's son's wedding? Good gig!

Wow Jack, thanks for the flashback! Haven't heard that song in 40+ years. Reminds me of the D&B On Tour record with Clapton, which is a classic.

Yeah, it is a good gig. I will just be playing guitar while a young lady does the vocals. We will be on the coast of Maine, outdoors. Greatly looking forward to it.

Nobody thought of the Turtles "So Happy Together". That would be a great wedding song.

One of the few advantages to getting old is my head has accumulated a huge amount of music that is still bouncing around in the empty spaces where my brain should be. (Too bad I'm getting too deaf to hear most of it!) But this tune is one that replays itself on my internal 8 track player often. It's on the same loop as Dan Fogelberg's "Longer".

Have a great time in Maine, and best of everything to the bride and groom!

Very fun! As a bonus, its verses have the same chord progression as Neil Young's "Like a Hurricane." That would be an interesting medley.

At my wedding, one of my favorite feel-good songs was the recent hit "Power of Love," by Huey Lewis and the News. For something from this decade, I go with "Toes," by Zac Brown. I wouldn't play that at a wedding, though.

Sorry Jaycat, late to the party!

Yeah, it's kinda gospel, but rocking it up wouldn't hurt this song at all. You could also easily fake up a 'marriage' verse.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')
