Thumbs up NMD My Kentucky KM-805 Arrived and it Exceeds Expectations

I would like to review this instrument further in the near future, but I am flabbergasted. The Kentucky KM-805 is a beautiful mandolin with the headstock and block inlay very similar to the Gibson Sam Bush. I knew it was higher in the Kentucky line, though I got a great used price on a MINT mandolin. My expectations were a nice backup F Style with decent tone and reasonably nice playability. This mandolin has the lowest action of any mandolin I have owned previously, has great woody chop, a rich and full tone, with loads of sustain and volume. Every bit as nice sounding as my Gibson F-9 I owned recently, with a more complete tonal spectrum. The bass is loud and the volume compares, but the highs are stronger and sustain longer. The action is superior. The intonation is dead on. A $1,000 street price mandolin for $700, including a new Guardian F-style case, and this mandolin is as a top shelve edition -- no seconds here. I had a KM-1000 Master Model, and as great as that one was, this is my favorite of the two. The wider radiused fretboard and nice big frets make this more pleasurable to play. I will record some music on it soon for those who are interested in how she sounds. Thanks for pulling for me-- like I said, I had realistic expectations and I got something I can play out and be proud of the appearance and the sound.

Mandoplumb, Can you imagine me doing performance reviews of my best teachers back in the day? You are so right! It is amazing when you open the case of a new instrument that turns out the way you wanted it to, the euphoria clouds your judgement a bit. Here is my video (please ignore my developmental playing --

I just finished viewing the photos that you added, and that is

one sweet looking mando you scored. Love the block inlay, it

should keep MAS at bay for a long time.

Thank you! J Mangio! What a cool way to put that-- keep MAS at bay. I know my sweet wife is hoping. I had a good time playing it at church this morning. Thanks to Ph-mando, too! Have a good day-- and week ahead.

That is a very nice mandolin. I hope to have one like that someday. I love those inlays as well. Beauty it is!

Hi Coffee Guy! I see you also are a guitar player who loves the mandolin. It has taken over my day and competes with my guitar time considerably. Thanks for the encouraging words. It has been fun to play the first week-- so enjoyable. I will let you know how she goes. BTW--Coffee rules.
