Default O mio babbino caro (Puccini)

Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924): O mio babbino caro ("O, My Beloved Father")
    From "Gianni Schicchi" (1918)

This is an instrumental version of Puccini's aria, arranged for a trio of mandolin, octave mandolin and guitar. This is an old arrangement from the repertoire folder of our ensemble (before I joined) -- I'm not sure who arranged it, but probably Tony Judge. Transposed a half step down from Ab major to G major to sit better on mandolin.

    1890s Umberto Ceccherini mandolin
    Mid-Missouri M-111 octave mandolin
    Ozark tenor guitar

Martin, I had hoped you'd sing this aria, but enjoyed your instrumental version just the same.

Just played this aria from the sheet music of ABRSM violin exam pieces. Nice to hear the melody in harmonic context!
I really enjoyed the pictures of Firenze. Nowadays it's a bit more crowded, with all the tourists coming to see David and the uffici!
    Nice playing, by the way!

We've played this at Seattle's Festa Italiana several times in the past few years with our soprano soloist, from a string orchestra arrangement.

Thanks for the kind comments. It's a fun piece to play on mandolin, and good practice for controlled tremolo dynamics.

I like to play the piece without the tremolo, I try not to use the tremolo to much but your tremolo is right on and I speed it up a bit when playing it alone but the piece lends itself to the tremolo so perfectly , I always look forward to your post because you put out some beautiful music ,thanks
