Question Mandolin in Bruce Springsteen's band

Seen in the finale of Jon Stewart's last Daily show..

not that it could be heard in the Mix over my TV, but the player had an Ovation
    mandolin, obviously ..

IDK who the player may be , open to hearing from others as to who is the Guy.

wikipedia has Steve van Zandt listed as a member in past years , Guitar & Mandolin,
and NYC can get a damned good pickup band with a few phone calls , for a Gig like that.

That was Steven Van Zandt on the Ovation...

Loved that whole last show...end of an era for sure.

Yes, Little Steven. He pulls out the Ovation now and then, and yes, it almost always gets buried in the mix. It's a Wall Of Sound, after all. If you want to hear a mandolin in a Springsteen song, dial up "Atlantic City," as done by The Band.

That was Jared Clemons on sax, BTW, Clarence Clemons' son, who has filled the gaping hole left when The Big Man passed away a few years ago.

And yes, truly the end of an era. Jon Stewart did an amazing job, and has himself left a gaping hole. He could turn out to have been one of the very best news commentators of all time. He certainly is my favorite. He didn't just go for the funny all the time; he was really insightful, and dedicated to pointing out the hypocrisy so many politicians of all stripes show. He was an excellent interviewer as well, educating himself on his subjects, actually reading their books and seeing their movies, and could pack a lot into their allotted time. I have no idea how he could have decided to leave just as the presidential campaign is gearing up. And I'm sure he regrets having done so, now that Trump has entered the race. He's had lots of fun with that already, but there is an immense amount of more goofiness to come from him and the rest of the candidates. I hope his replacement can step up. It's a really hard act to follow.

I love their version. It's heresy where I live but it's the better version of the song.

Wondered who that was playing an Ovation mando. I figured out it was Steven Van Zandt, but should have known to come here first. You could see he was picking, but it was completely drowned out. What a gig! Jon Stewart will be sorely missed by most everyone. I'd list a few exceptions, but want my post to remain undeleted.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that was Jake Clemons, Clarence's nephew, who has been touring with Bruce for quite a while now.

Yes, of course. That's whom I meant. No idea how I got it that wrong. Got the main idea right, not the details. And the devil's in the details.

BTW, happy 40th birthday, "Born To Run." Released on 8/25/75, 40 years ago today. No mandolin on it, but a pretty good album anyway.

From the wiki: The album took more than 14 months to record, with six months alone spent on the song "Born to Run." During this time Springsteen battled with anger and frustration over the album, saying he heard "sounds in [his] head" that he could not explain to the others in the studio.

Springsteen has said that he wanted "Born to Run" to sound like "Roy Orbison singing Bob Dylan, produced by [Phil] Spector."
