I played a 504, which I know is neither of the instruments that you mentioned , liked it but it’s tone was a little too “shrill” for what I was looking for. A little biased towards the treble side if that makes sense?

I had a Weber mahogany Bitterroot back in the day. It was fine, but a little too muddy toned for my tastes.

I might consider a mahogany model if I wanted an oval hole instrument (or a flat top instrument) to play folk music, but I can't think of a good reason to select mahogany for an F holed instrument.
