    Default Build Update: Dammann Mandocello

Hi all, just got some pics from my luthier, Ray Varona for Dammann Fine Custom Instruments, and wanted to post them up.

The back and sides are quarter-sawn cherry, the back with a rosewood inlay.

The neck is a 5-piece laminate sandwich of cherry & maple with wenge accents. It will be oil-finished. (speed neck)

The headplate is the same cherry as the back & sides, with a crescent and the maker's mark both inlaid in burly maple.

The top is spruce with a rosette of the burly maple & cherry found elsewhere on the instrument.
    Here's the top bracing:

My aesthetic goal was to create a cohesive, unified design using visually interesting, acoustically appropriate woods, and to source them all locally, as Ralph & Ray like to do. The cherry and maple are both local, but the spruce is Sitka because Ray really felt it was a better piece than any of the more local top woods he had in stock. Only the wenge neck accent and the rosewood for the back accent & fingerboard will be "exotic" woods.

That's all for now! More for the forum when I get them. Thank you all for sharing this journey with me - I can't wait to play the final product.
