Thread: Improving volume on A and E strings

This volume issue appears to be related to the resonance response of the body to a certain frequency.
My (recently acquired) army navy Kentucky mandolin does not have this issue, all strings have a balanced volume.

I have wondered about the weaker A and E strings as they relate to the resonance of the mandolin body. I am assuming it is "tuned" to a D. I can tell when the D is in tune almost without an electronic tuner because the string will get very loud. It was this strong mid and bottom range that attracted me to the mandolin to begin with. I wonder if the E string (which seems the weakest to my ear) is weak only by comparison.

Still not sure what can be done about it that hasn't been tried.

    Thanks for all the discussion.
