Does anyone know of any good internet links to tune files? At the moment, I am particularly interested in traditional music from Quebec. Thanks! Judith

Not much use for Quebequois tunes, I'm afraid, but I have hundreds of tunes in ABC format, standard notation, tab, and MIDI on my site. Start at www.nigelgatherer.com/tunes.html

For ABC tunes, try this link (JC's Tune Finder). I just did a search for Quebec and got a good handful of them.

The two sites already linked above are both wonderful, and I use them a lot. #Nigel's site, in particular, is great for getting versions of tunes that are actually fun to play on mandolin (because that's his instrument). #Others are:

Ceolas (with more good links, too)

    The Fiddler's Companion

Richard Robinson's tunebook (this seems to be down at the moment)

The Digital Tradition (for songs and their tunes/airs)

The Session (also check their links page)

Diatonica transcriptions (these are accordion tunes, but many are playable on mandolin, and the range of music is completely different from the Irish/Scottish-heavy sites above).

I've created a webpage with lots of links to online Celtic music transcriptions in abc, midi, mp3, notation, & tab formats

here's a few specific links to tunes from Quebec ...

Waltz of The Toys (Valse des Jouets) by Michel Faubert, a tune I just learned last nite at the local weekly Celtic session, is in abc format from Henrik Norbeck ... and also sample notation from the MelBay's tunebook Danse Ce Soir ... here's a list of the Quebecois tunes in the tunebooks Danse Ce Soir & also La Grande Ronde, which may help your search for specific tunes

    Abc files of Quebecois tunes

For your listening pleasure, here's lots of fiddle tunes from old 78's recordings from Bibliothèque nationale du Québec, in ram/RealPlayer format ... click Sujet for a list of the tune categories

    Keepin' tuned ...

Wendy - thanks so much! I know of a lot of abc file sites, but not these. I knew more had to be out there. Where are you? Judith

If you get the abc file you want (get the txt form of it) then you can go to the Tune-A-Tron and print out the resulting notation as a PDF file and save it that way. It is cheap and easy.

Thanks Mike. I know about the Tune O Tron converter, but I am glad you posted it - its so helpful and amazing, if you ask me, and combined with abc notation, makes tune-sharing so much easier. Thanks again. Judith

    Hey all,
I'm also interested in finding the Quebequois style tunes for mandolin because we are going to travel there this summer and I'm hoping to participate in informal jam sessions. Even better would be the lyrics in French added.
But I see that these posts are ancient from 2005 so I'm asking the same question 20 yrs! later.

    Thanks in advance,
    Phaedrus157

The Montreal Session Tunebook (just google that) is a great resource that includes Quebecois stuff but also tunes from many other sources. I'm not sure how easy it would be to whittle it down to Quebecois only, but worth a look.
