Going to have to learn this one.... Sounds easy enough. Though I still need to get the basics down, I may take a shot at this song. I haven't seen a tutorial video for it - does anyone know if there is anything out there?

I've actually played around with that a little bit but it just doesn't sound right to me. SO I took some screen shots of Peter Buck's hands while he is performing this piece on a DVD I have so between the tab above and the screen shots I'm sure I can figure it out. It would be SO much easier if I could just call Peter and ask him.

I just thought it would be fun to learn a song before I dive into the learning how to read music, etc so I can feel like I've accomplished something rather than just plinking and plunking around. :-)

Are you just starting with the mandolin? Seems like a hard way to start, unless you are already an experienced musician that is.

No, haven't touched an instrument for years and I'm not planning on getting this song down perfectly for now... Just trying to learn a lick or two from it for the heck of it because REM is the reason I wanted to plan the mandolin in the first place.

I'm 4 years late, but R.E.M. was the reason I got a mandolin as well. If you're still interested in learning the song, if you haven't already, I just posted a lesson on YouTube.....since I know it (I think, anyway!) and there didn't seem to be one posted already.
