    Re: Classic Grisman

Thanks, I didn't include the time stamp because I think the break is way better within the context of the whole song. Alison Krauss' solo isn't too bad either!

    Classic Grisman

This is one of my favorite Grisman solos. Every note lands perfectly and his timing is just incredible. I guess that's what makes these guys pros!

Case bite strikes again. One of the best features of my NF case is the way the lid holds itself up

    Re: Case question

I bought a Northfield Airloom case for my Fern recently. It is a very nice case but I doubt how well it would hold up to a crushing incident, it also scuffs very easily. I'll probably keep it around...

Re: Quick take of Jerusalem Ridge

Big fan of Kenny Baker's version, but it's Micheal Cleveland's duet version with Nathan Livers that really blows me away every single time

    Quick take of Jerusalem Ridge

Grabbed this today while the baby was sleeping upstairs. Recorded straight into my MacBook using quicktime which leaves a lot lacking sound wise. What setup are you guys using to record sound and...

    Re: chop chord synchronization/alternation

I know what you’re describing and it’s very similar to my own chop, I fret the chord and apply pressure right on the 1 and strum/release pressure right on the 2. It was very natural for me to do this...

    Re: Gibson F-5L thoughts

Go for it, they are great instruments and that is one of the nicest backs I've seen on a modern F5L. Don't let anyone here tell you how to spend your money, it sounds like you know exactly what you...

    Re: Gibson F-5L thoughts

I bought a 2017 F5L sight unseen a few months ago and donít regret it at all. Morgan Music was awesome to work with and gave me the option of keeping it for a few days to find out if it was a good...

    Re: Working on my chop

Thanks for the advice. I do use 4 string shapes almost exclusively. I use monel j74s with a SR60 bluechip. It sounds like I might be unknowingly slowing my right hand down instead of chopping through...

    Re: Working on my chop

Honestly I’m just trying to sound like myself! I really like Adam Steffey’s chop, Alan Bibey, and obviously Bush. I’d love to sound like any of those guys but ultimately I’m wanting to develop my own...

    Re: Working on my chop

I did take lessons for a while a few years ago until my instructor moved away, I’ve always felt my chop was satisfactory until lately. I do agree a few lessons would be very beneficial right now but...

    Working on my chop

I had the good fortune recently of playing with some high caliber bluegrass musicians, it was a good experience and for the most part I felt I held my own all the while being the obvious weakest link...

You should try the SR60, I used to use the TAD60 exclusively but now I the SR gives me way more tonal control

I actually bought my Weber from there. I really enjoyed the shop and the service. If I didn’t get much back in responses here I was going to probably go with them.

    Searching for a luthier

As the title states I am looking for any recommendations for a good mandolin luthier within reasonable driving distance. I am located in NE Iowa, about 3 hours drive from Des Moines and 1.5 hours...
  21. Re: Great practice tool: Strum Machine (strummachine.com)

Strum machine has been a great resource. I like the fact that the library is extensive and you also have the option of creating your own arrangements. I've added several songs in the last month such...

Re: Which mandolin should I buy?

I was shopping with a budget up to $8,000 not too long ago. I ended up with my 2017 Gibson F5L. I was looking at more production builds than boutique since my budget wasn't quite high enough for what...

    Re: NMD 2017 Gibson F5L

I've lately felt the need to update this thread to say just how good this mandolin is. After 6 weeks of heavy playing it is turning into a hell of great sounding mandolin. The bass is woody with a...
