    Re: Abramusic Mandolin

And no need for them to worry about getting a nasty-gram from Gibson! Good for them:grin:.
  2. Re: How did you feel about your new build Mando?

As the owner and player of the instrument, it is really only your opinion that matters. That said, additional information may help shape that opinion. My first suggestion would be to get it in the...

Re: Giving credit where credit is due

I like fixing things when they break, so I can keep using them. This was an easy fix for me that has lasted now for a bunch of years. Just a little loop of tape and enough epoxy putty to fill it,...

    Re: Piccolo mandolins

Nah, can't say I agree with the piccolo being a novelty; just a different voice. I think about it this way. You could have a really nice sedan that can get you anywhere you might want to go in...

    Re: Piccolo mandolins

Here are two pictures of my Mike Black piccolo to accompany Dawgs. Note the two cat inlays on mine (headstock and neck heel). So we now have a 'Dawg' piccolo and a 'cat' piccolo!

    You might...

    Re: Piccolo mandolins

Sorry, Mobike, but I only have one of Mike's piccolos. I would love to have one of his A4 mandolins to match it though, and may, one day. He is great to work with. It would be fun to have him do a...

    Re: Piccolo mandolins

I have one of Mike Black's piccolos with that 'about 11 inch' scale length. I have no problem whatever in playability (YMMV) and it sounds fantastic. My mandolin friends really like it, too.

Re: Wearing a watch and RH anchor

Like Sblock, I wear a watch on my right wrist. I very, very lightly graze the heel of my hand along the strings just beyond the bridge (toward the tail) and have no problems whatever. Actually, the...

    Re: Virzi "Tone destroyer"

Sorry for the consistently incorrect spelling of Virzi. No excuse other than it had been a very long day.

    Re: Virzi "Tone destroyer"

Living out here in a rural area as I do, I have always been amazed by people who will buy a forested property and then cut down all the trees. There are plenty of tree-less properties available. If...

Re: 19" octave mandolin - tune as CGDA

Ahhhh! There is a mistake in the spread sheet I posted earlier. Left some zeros off. You would all understand what is meant, but might as well fix it. Here is the corrected version.

Re: 19" octave mandolin - tune as CGDA

I have an 18.5" scale length mandola/OM that I have tuned GDAE (OM) and CGDA (mandola). I worked out string tensions using D'Addario's Tension Pro. These shouldn't be too far off from 19" scale...

Attaching a PDF or Excel Spreadsheet?

I have produced an Excel spread sheet of string tensions vs gauges for an 18.5 inch mandola/OM in CGDA and GDAE tunings. I have tried to upload as a PDF image but is comes up black. Is there a way...

I am really sorry for what you are going through. I have been there and know that I will be again. It is never easy, and the only thing that helps me is time. I haven't found a way to...

Yes, Ed, I was really saddened by it as well. I really thought it was a great thing when Rolfe turned the shop over to Jenny. A small shop going to a new generation is a gift for all of us who...

    Re: a bad practice session

    Hi Dave,

I try not to end it on a low note (pun intended) but instead admit to myself that it is going badly, think of a song I know, enjoy and play well, and play that just for the fun of it. ...

They are amazingly good mandolins, if they are the style you are looking for. They are designed to be strung with light strings, specifically Thomastic Mediums (which are actually quite light). I...

  24. Re: Showing off my collection of bowlback mandolins

  25. Re: New Morris Flattop has arrived. String question.

To my ears, on this instrument, the EJ62 (80/20 Bronze) sounds a bit warmer and more complex; the EJ73 Phosphor Bronze are a bit, hmmm. . . I'm trying to find a nice way to put it. . . brighter and...
